Comments & Criticism – Castlevania SOTN gets a 9.7/10. Near perfect. Not much negativity or harsh criticism goes towards Symphony Of The Night. Because it is just that, a perfect title to a perfect game with a soundtrack that compliments the name as well. If anything I would certainly love more songs of this nature in the game. One complaint could be that music gets repeated in certain areas so there was definitely room for more songs for each area to have it’s own theme including the inverted castle.
The Inverted Castle is just that, the game flipped upside down so maybe if the music had some more alternate themes of areas that literally feel inverted with the music notes would’ve been a cool idea. However, the fact that there is an entire 2nd castle to explore for items and equipment & extra relics & bosses was quite the surprise back in the day. It felt like 2 games in one.
And the game doesn’t end there either as far as replay value goes. You can play through the main game as Richter and in some version as Maria, which just has to be said is a treat! She is probably the strongest character in SOTN by far. She was fun to play as in Rondo Of Blood thanks to the Dracula X Chronicles released on the PSP. More recently this was put into a collection with Rondo Of Blood since it’s a sequel story-wise, called Castlevania Requiem. And they certainly are the two best games to play in the series for anyone interested in the old school classic side-scrolling gameplay with ROBlood & for those that love the Metroid influence with SOTNight. Speaking of Metroid; More specifically Super Metroid on the SNES … if it wasn’t for that then there would never be a game quite like SOTN and in today’s current game industry there are countless MetroidVania titles paying homage to these must play masterpieces!
The emphasis this time around was adding overall Brightness to the mix. Hope you all enjoy the extended remaster! All songs are produced at the highest quality (HQ) – 320kbps. If you listen with headphones you’ll be able to hear more detail including the entire fade out clearly, always interesting to see where it ends at the 15min mark. Let me know what your favorite tracks are in the comments! More to come in the future : )
