Power Carving a Great White Shark out of Walnut | Wood Carving
In this video, I power carve a great white shark, as though it is jumping out of the water. I had a lot of fun with this little carving and I hope you enjoy watching the process!

For this wood carving, I just used a scrap of walnut that I had laying around.
No fancy rotary carver, just a basic Dremel 1000 with a flex-shaft attachment (a must!) which really helps with maneuvering.
Sanding drum bits to rough out the shape, followed by ball, cylinder, and cone shaped carbide burs for most of the carving. These were given to me, but decent carbide burs can run for $5 a piece or more. For finer details and smoothing out the rough parts I used ball and cone shaped diamond tip burs (very cheap, $2ish from Walmart for 6 of them)
To finish up, I used 220 grit sandpaper on the shark to really smooth him out. Not nearly as much on the water, as I wanted it to remain textured and knew I’d be coating it heavily with the gloss polyurethane.
Covered the water in masking tape, sprayed him with matte poly, took the tape off and brushed on the oil-based (thicker) gloss poly.
All in an on-and-off months work!
