Making the carved cane topper: Woodworking project

Welcome to Wood ‘n’ Stuff w/ Steve French!

Every year at the Ridge Woodcarver’s annual “Artistry in Wood” show we raffle of a walking stick called a “Friendship cane”. Each section of it is carved by a different club member. I was asked to make the topper this year. And like the professional ‘crastinator’ that I am, I waited until a month before to get it done. Well, here it is!

I believe this very well may be my best video yet so make sure to watch all the way through and let me know what you think. New intro too.

I carved this from basswood. The base measures 2″ x 2″. The cage measures almost 4″ across. Taking the time to record the video took a lot of work. So did the editing. But it was worth it: I got the piece done in plenty of time and got a cool video to share with you guys. We’ll be back on the burr puzzles soon enough. I thought you guys might want a break in the meantime.

I hope you enjoy. Please take a moment to give ‘er the ‘ole thumbs up and comment. And if you like it, please subscribe and share. Knowing that people are watching and, hopefully, enjoying makes it worth all the effort.
