Carving the Suffolk Coat of Arms [Wood Carving Project]
Carving the Suffolk Coat of Arms [Wood Carving Project]
I wanted to test myself with some more complex wood carving and so decided to carve the Suffolk (UK) Coat of Arms for my Dad (The county he’s from) for Christmas. I made this carving with a relatively small set of chisels that I’ve bought over the last couple of years.
The coat of arms depicts various aspects of Suffolk which is in the East of England. The sun rising over the sea represents the fact that Suffolk is the most easterly county in the UK and the two crowns refer to the town Bury St. Edmunds. The viking longboat on the top of the coat of arms signifies the Norse influence in the region. The sun on the coat of arms was also used as the badge of Suffolk during the battle of Agincourt.
I streamed the whole process live on Twitch to an excellent and encouraging group of people. I stream every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3pm GMT and Saturdays at 4pm. i’d love you to come and join us! www.twitch.tv/timberanew
